Thank you for your interest in the ASCCP Colposcopy Education Completion Program. This is a replacement to the Colposcopy Mentorship Program, aka CMP.
There are two tiers to this program.
1) ASCCP's Comprehensive Colposcopy Course - If you have taken this course (in person or online), within the past 2 years, you are eligible to move on to the exam.
2) ASCCP's Colposcopy Education Completion Exam - Please contact us at info@asccp.org to apply to sit for the exam and pay the exam fee.
Colposcopy Education Completion Exam
As you begin to prepare for the online Colposcopy Education Completion Exam, below are a few resources that you may be interested in reviewing and/or utilizing. As a reminder, this exam is not a certification and does not in and of itself prepare you to perform colposcopies independently. That is a decision to be made between you and your employer. This program gives a certificate of completion noting that you have completed the course and passed the exam.
About the Colposcopy Education Completion Exam
As a reminder, this exam is not a certification. There are no national training guidelines or certifications for colposcopy, through ASCCP or any other organization. Additionally, the exam does not in and of itself prepare you to perform colposcopies independently. That is a decision to be made between you and your employer. The exam is a resume builder so you can prove your knowledge of the material.
In the past, ASCCP offered the CMP - Colposcopy Mentorship Program. Participants partook in a formal mentorship program, which included sending logs of their colposcopies to ASCCP, and then sitting for the exam.
ASCCP has since changed the mentorship program. We still offer our course, and then recommend getting hands-on training/mentorship through your employer or other network connections. After taking the course and significant practice, we recommend coming back to ASCCP via a call or an email to info@asccp.org, and asking to be set up for the exam.
Most will participate in significant practice (which may be a year or more) before sitting for the exam. If you choose to sit for the exam after completing the course, you will have two (2) years to sign up for it from the date the course is completed. The exam fee is an additional $135.
Upon passing the exam, you will be issued a certificate of completion noting that you have completed the course and passed the exam. Please note additional attempts or reattempts require the completion of a new course to qualify for the exam.
Comprehensive Colposcopy Course Lectures
It is recommended that you review the presentations from the Comprehensive Colposcopy course that you attended.
Part of the online exam includes diagnosis/pattern recognition questions consisting of images or lesion descriptions that ask for a diagnosis, as well as management questions consisting of images, lesion descriptions, or questions that essentially ask, "how would you manage this patient?". We strongly recommend preparing for this part of the exam by reviewing as many images as possible from the course lectures and/or colposcopy textbooks.
Also, if you are an ASCCP Member, you have access to images available in the Image Archive.
Guidelines
It is recommended that you review the "2019 Risk Based Management Consensus Guidelines for the Management of Abnormal Cervical Cancer Screening Tests and Cancer Precursors" article and all supporting articles. These can be found under the Guidelines Collection with the Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease.
Colposcopy Standards
It is strongly recommended that you review the October 2017 issue of the JLGTD on Colposcopy Standards. The recommendations on new standards of colposcopy practice cover terminology, risk-based colposcopic biopsy, colposcopy procedures, and colposcopy adjuncts.
Case Reviews
ASCCP periodically releases a new case review that will allow you to test your knowledge in anogenital and HPV-related diseases. You will receive immediate feedback on your answer choice (correct or incorrect) as well as a brief summary with supporting references for the correct answer. This resource is available exclusively to ASCCP Members. Not a Member? Consider joining today! Click here to view the benefits of being an ASCCP member.
