COLPOSCOPY MENTORSHIP PROGRAM EXAMINATION
ASCCP's Colposcopy Mentorship Program (CMP) Examination serves as the final tier
of the Society's three-tiered basic colposcopy program. Any individual who has completed
a U.S.-accredited residency program, or an ACCME-accredited basic colposcopy course, and a
mentorship program (to include 25 supervised, consecutive colposcopy examinations with
a minimum of 3 high-grade findings, e.g. HSIL on cytology or CIN 2/3 by biopsy),
and submitted all required documentation 30 days prior to the date of the exam, may take the
examination. For mentorship documentation requirements, please visit the Mentorship
Program Requirements Form..
The cost for the CMP examination is $125.00, which is used to defray the cost of the
testing procedure.
The CMP examination is now being offered online. Applicants may register for the exam
after receiving a letter from the National Office of their eligibility to sit for
the exam. Once the registration form is received, information will be mailed with
instructions, user name and password, and verification forms.
COLPOSCOPY RECOGNITION AWARD EXAMINATION
(Exam undergoing revision in 2008. Unavailable
until further notice.)
The Colposcopy Recognition Award (CRA) Examination, first initiated at the March
1992 ASCCP Biennial Meeting, recognizes and honors those individuals who have successfully
passed a written and slide examination. This is an advanced-level examination that serves
to test expertise in colposcopy of the lower genital tract.
The cost for the CRA examination is $100.00 for ASCCP members, and $260.00 for
non-members. The fee for the examination is used to defray the cost of the testing procedure.
The CRA examination is currently undergoing a revision. It is expected to be
released for online use in late 2008-early 2009.
EXAMINATION FORMAT
Both the CMP and CRA examinations feature multiple choice questions and interpretation
of digitized colposcopic images. Each examination runs 2 hours in length. Questions may
include all matters pertaining to the knowledge and skills used by the clinician in the
diagnosis and management of lower genital tract neoplasia and related diseases.
Successful candidates will be recognized with a handsome diploma, special identification
on the ASCCP website, and recognition at the Societys Biennial Meetings.
Those eligible to sit for the examinations may registration for either examination
by using the forms provided online, or by mailing or faxing the registration forms to
the ASCCP National Office, 152 West Washington Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740. The ASCCP
fax number is (301) 733-5775.
Registration fees will not be refunded if the applicant fails to appear for the examination.
RESIDENTS EXAM
ASCCP partnered with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Library of Medicine
(NLM) to utilize over 1,000 colposcopy images from the NCI's archive in the development of the
Residents Assessment of Competency in Colposcopy exam. In addition to the photographs from
the NCI, the new ASCCP examination provides a real-world interactive format for assessing medical
knowledge, diagnosis and patient management competencies in colposcopy. Performance will be
graded as a percentile of other residents in the same discipline nationwide.
An excellent assessment tool, the exam is inexpensive and easy to administer. Fees are based
on the number of residents (total payment, not per resident):

Once the Program Director or designee enrolls his/her residents to take the test, the
resident may log-in, take a brief practice exam and explore the site before taking the
examination. In addition to the resident, any program administrator given access to the
system may take a practice exam to see its structure.
After entering the residents into the system, you may then assign the exam at your
discretion. Your residents may take the exam at a time, place and with a level of
supervision that you choose. Once started, however, the exam must be completed within
one hour and at one sitting. The exam does not have to be taken by all the residents at
the same time and, if you allow, it may be taken at home by the residents so it will not
interfere with clinical duties and work hour restrictions.
After completing the exam the resident will have immediate access to their test
results and the Program Director or designee will also have the ability to retrieve
the results for their entire program.
If you are a program director and wish to sign up your residents for this assessment
tool, please send an email to Ms. Debbie McClain.
