EXPLANATION OF TIERS: THOSE WHO LEARNED/OR ARE LEARNING COLPOSCOPY IN RESIDENCY

Tier One
The first tier is the necessary didactic knowledge, which is gained through either an ACCME-accredited basic colposcopy course or a U.S.-accredited residency program. Included in the first tier is all necessary paperwork required of the Mentee and Mentor in order to register for the program, which can be found in the getting started section on the Mentorship Program homepage. If residency training has been completed within the last five years, the physician may submit a letter from his/her residency director stating that the student performed 25 colposcopy exams with at least three high grade findings in lieu of the postgraduate course.

Tier Two
The second tier is the actual mentorship training period in which the beginning colposcopist performs colposcopic examinations and deduces cytologic, colposcopic, and histologic correlation under the guidance of an experienced Mentor. This tier may be conducted in a private practice or clinic setting or in a U.S.-accredited residency program. If residency training has been completed within the last five years, the physician may submit a letter from his/her residency director stating that the student performed 25 colposcopy exams with at least three high grade findings in lieu of the mentorship training period.

Tier Three
The third tier is an exit examination titled, the Colposcopy Mentorship Program exam. Applicants may register for the exam after receiving a letter from the National Office of their eligibility to sit for the exam. Currently, the exam is given at all ASCCP postgraduate programs, and the course brochures providing the exam dates are listed on the following webpage . To register, download the particular course registration form, complete, and submit the form to the ASCCP National Office. Registration for the exam must be received 30 days prior to the test date.
